MIAMI (NBA) - Puerto Rican guard Guillermo Diaz is set to jump straight into the NBA Draft after deciding not to play in the NCAA league for the University of Miami again next season.
Diaz was set to return for his fourth year with the Florida outfit but believes he has enough ability to move up to the NBA as a rookie.
He told newspaper El Nuevo Dia: "I think I'm ready to make this step. I've been working hard for three years to reach this position.
"I'm sure this is a good decision for me and my family."
In 2002 Diaz overlooked a promising volleyball career to focus on basketball and he is confident that he has made the right decision.
"Some years ago, I took a very difficult decision too," he admitted. "Now, I'm making a fresh start and taking new steps but I know I can do things well."
"Perhaps a lot of people doubt I can make it but I'm convinced - I need to work hard," he added.
The draft for the 2006-07 season takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York on June 28.
