BAYAMON (BSN League) - Criollos will hope they can continue their fine form in the Puerto Rican BSN league after claiming three wins in the past week to top the standings.
Their impressive week began last Tuesday with a 98-91 defeat of San German Atleticos. Omar Alvarado top-scored with 29 points.
Two days later, Leonel Arill's team hammered Guayama Brujos 104-83, with 23 points from Chris Burgess.
On Saturday they suffered just their third defeat of the campaign, 94-76 at Santurce Cangrejeros, but they returned to winning ways on Monday night with a 78-66 victory over 2005 runners-up Bayamon Vaqueros, Bobby Brannen and David Anderson each netting 16 points.
Brujos are second in the standings. Despite their heavy loss to Criollos, they recovered to beat Humacao Grises 98-87, Monty Wilson top-scoring with 25 points.
And on Sunday Jose Martinez's team claimed the scalp of reigning champions Arecibo Capitanes 84-75, with Wilson, Erick Rodriguez and Rafael Tejada Perez each pouring in 18 points.
Capitanes, Grises, Guaynabo Conquistadores and Ponce Leones are all tied for third place with 7-5 records.
Capitanes were beaten 96-93 at Coamo Maratonistas last Tuesday, but on Friday, the 2005 champions bounced back to see off Maratonistas 102-95.
They lost again on Monday however, 105-87 at Grises, Sean Banks leading the home side with 25 points.
Grises also defeated Leones 78-73 on Wednesday, thanks in part to 18 points from Cristopher Hiraldo, while Conquistadores beat Vaqueros 98-74 and Maratonistas 85-77.
Finally, Leones defeated Maratonistas 76-73, Atleticos 66-64 and Cangrejeros 71-68.
