ARECIBO (Baloncesto Superior Nacional) – Larry Ayuso hit eight three-pointers to help Capitanes to an 86-78 win over Vaqueros in the BSN Finals on Sunday.

The win saw Arecibo tie the best-of-seven games series at 2-2.

The visitors were the sharper team early on, using a three-point barrage and good ball movement to lead 21-14 at the end of the first quarter.

The hosts fought back in the second quarter, getting a few easy baskets down low as Vaqueros’ big man Robert ‘Tractor’ Traylor was getting a rest.

The defending champions led 30-22 midway through the second period but Arecibo then went on an 11-2 spurt to get within one, 36-35, and trailed 38-35 at halftime.

Andres Rodriguez buried a three-pointer early in the third quarter to tie the game at 38 all and the team swapped the lead for a few minutes before the home side pulled away and took a 61-53 advantage into the final frame.

They would ride that momentum early in the fourth quarter to go up by as many as 13, 66-53.

Ayuso was a man possessed in that period, hitting time and time again from beyond the arc. He finished the game with eight makes out of 12 attempts from three-point territory.

Danilo Pinnock added 14 in the winning cause and Rodriguez finished with nine points and handed out nine assists.

Carmelo Lee was the high-man for Vaqueros with 22 points and Christian Dalmau added 16.
