GENEVA/ATHENS (Olympics) – Tomorrow, upon completion of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Men, the last three teams clinching a spot for the Beijing Games will be known.
Croatia, Germany, Greece and Puerto Rico will battle in today’s semi-finals at the Indoor Basketball Arena of the Olympic Athletic Center (OAKA) in Maroussi, Athens, with the winners clinching places for the Games in China. The semi-final losers will then meet in Sunday’s final for the last passport to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The draw to determine the final composition of groups for Beijing will take place on Sunday, 20th July in the Press Conference Room of the OAKA Basketball Arena, immediately after the post-game press conference of the Final.
As a result of this draw, one team will be included in Group A, while two squads will compete in Group B. Below is the current composition of groups for the Olympic Basketball Tournament for Men:
Group A: Argentina, Australia, Iran, Lithuania, Russia
(+ Qualifier A)
Group B: Angola, China, Spain, USA
(+ Qualifier B and Qualifier C)
