    PR N°42 - Decision of the FIBA Appeals' Tribunal on the doping case of Kaspars Kambala

    GENEVA (FIBA) – On 27th April 2007, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) suspended the player Kaspars Kambala (Latvia), born on 13th December 1978, for a period of 14 months, after he tested positive for metabolites of cocaine.     GENEVA (FIBA) – On 27th April 2007, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) suspended the player Kaspars Kambala (Latvia), born on 13th December 1978, for a period of 14 months, after he tested positive for metabolites of cocaine.

    The above-mentioned decision was appealed by the player and by WADA before the FIBA Appeals’ Tribunal. Today, 24th August 2007, the FIBA Appeals’ Tribunal has decided to extend the sanction to the player and impose a 24 month suspension period to Mr. Kambala.

    The sanction rendered by the FIBA Appeals’ Tribunal began on 13th December 2006 (date of the sample collection) and will end on 12th December 2008.
