Players to watch at FIBA 3x3 World Tour Debrecen 2024

DEBRECEN (Hungary) - Some of 3x3's best players will be extra pumped up because the FIBA 3x3 World Tour stops at the annual favorite Debrecen Masters on August 31-September 1.

DEBRECEN (Hungary) - Some of 3x3's best players will be extra pumped up because the FIBA 3x3 World Tour stops at the annual favorite Debrecen Masters on August 31-September 1.

Here are the players you have to watch.

    Canyon Barry (Miami)

We know you watched Paris 2024, so your jaw was no doubt on the floor when Canyon Barry turned into Captain America to lift a shorthanded USA to a couple of famous dubs.

After superstar Jimmer Fredette suffered a heart-breaking tournament ending injury in USA's second game, Barry put his proud hoops nation on his back with an incredible scoring binge.

Barry, who has beefed up to fittingly look like a superhuman, will have to again carry the load in Fredette's absence for top seed Miami.

But no one will doubt whether he can ever again.

    Strahinja Stojacic (Ub Huishan NE)

There's an image that will never be forgotten for those who saw it.

After favorite Serbia shockingly crashed at the play-in to end their Olympic dreams, superstar Strahinja Stojacic could not face the media as he stepped away and took off his jersey before breaking down in tears.

His agony showed just how much 3x3 means to him and you just knew Stojacic would be determined to bounce back. He did exactly that at the Europe Cup with a trademark brilliant performance, but Serbia fell agonizingly short of a sixth straight title.

In a bid to concentrate on the Olympics, 'Doctor Strange' only played two Masters in the first half of the season. But he's raring to go and ready to make Debrecen his personal multiverse.

    Nico Kaltenbrunner (Vienna)

There hasn't been a better story in 3x3 recently than this 24-year-old, who is absolutely ballin'. He's the hottest player on the tournament and entering superstardom after collecting MVPs at the Almaty Masters and Europe Cup.

We all know he's quicker than lightning when he drives, but Kaltenbrunner is playing with an edge and extra purpose right now. It might just be because he's become a father and he's harnessing the emotion to good effect.

Usually new parents are sleep deprived, but Kaltenbrunner has unlimited energy and is playing inspired ball as he'll again show in Debrecen.

    Maarten Bouwknecht (Amsterdam)

Amsterdam might look a little different, but they will be just as formidable because scoring machine Maarten Bouwknecht is back on the half-court.

The 29-year-old will be making his World Tour 2024 debut, but has been in top form in Dutch local events. Real ones will well know Bouwknecht, who has been on the pro circuit since 2019 and won MVPs previously.

This Dutch Master is all buckets and we're so glad he's back on the half-court.

    Dennis Donkor (Riffa)

It's really unfair that Donkor is both a menace on the defensive and offensive ends. Riffa (BRN) have not quite fired yet on the World Tour, but Donkor has been absolutely incredible and is No.1 in player value and highlights.

He has played with trademark passion in a bid to ignite Riffa, who have started to put it together with a couple of recent titles on the pro circuit. If Riffa click in Debrecen then it's probably because Dennis Donkor dominated in all areas.

    ...

    Marko Stevanovic (Liman)

The big fella and former Masters MVP has quickly taken to his new team, where he has impressively clicked with Liman legends Stefan Kojic and Mihailo Vasic.

He has helped rejuvenate Lima, who have lit it up on the pro circuit, and the only thing missing is a title on the World Tour.

If he dominates the paint, where he either emphatically dunks the rim or has his own block party, then Liman might just get a first Masters dub with their prized recruit.

    Dimeo van der Horst (Utrecht)

'Dimes' has understandably had a breather after this 3x3 pioneer's crowning moment of his career when he helped Netherlands clinch Olympic gold in Paris.

He's had a breather and ready to unleash for his new team Utrecht (NED), who are an emerging side ready to take the next level. 'Dimes' is set to be an important mentor for this young team and his wealth of experience will be critical when the game is on the line.

You just know he'll be playing with the same passion he showed on the Olympic stage and get ready for van der Horst to unleash his world famous air guitar.

    ...

    Przemyslaw Zamojski (Warsaw Lotto)

Poland were gallant at the Olympics, where their star Przemyslaw Zamojski was lights out to issue a reminder that he can go toe-to-toe with anyone.

Warsaw Lotto (POL) haven't been seen much this season and their only World Tour appearance was a quick sighting in Marseille.

But you can never write off the Poles because Zamojski can get on a heater on the big stage as we saw in Paris.

And this legendary sniper has happy memories of Debrecen - the site of his heroics earlier this year when he clinched Poland a spot in Paris 2024.
