A tough grind awaits the Careline-RP Women’s Under-18 team, which leaves for Taiwan on Friday for a series of exhibition games.

The Taiwan trip is part of the preparations of the RP squad of coach Pat Aquino for the FIBA-Asia Women’s Championship in Surat-thaya, Thailand, in June.

Trisha Piatos, Tara Araneta and Ara Abaca will be at the forefront of the team’s campaign.

Aquino said their preparation for the Thailand tournament has been affected by the recruitment of some of their top players by the top schools in the country.

“Sometimes, we can’t practice as a whole team since they give our players a hard time to practice with us,” said team manager Johnson Martinez.

The Taiwan Basketball Association helped arranged the series for the Filipinos, whose campaign is backed by Ever Bilena Cosmetics chair and RP women’s junior godfather Dioceldo Sy and the Philippine Sports Commission.

Sy appealed to the schools to help out because it’s a matter of “national commitment.”

Aquino expects a tough time in the FIBA-Asia tournament with China, Chinese-Taipei, Japan and Korea fielding formidable squads.
