Philippines - Guiao wants Aguilar, Rabeh for national team
Aware of the scarcity of big men in Philippine Basketball Association, Yeng Guiao, the newly appointed national team coach, is considering securing the services of 6’7” Ateneo center Rabeh Al-Hussaini and 6’9” swingman US NCAA standout Japeth Aguilar for the 2009 Fiba Asia Men’s basketball championship. “That’s a possibility,” Guiao told Standard Today, referring to both Al-Husaaini and Aguilar playing for the RP quintet. “The United States Basketball has used that formula in 1992 with the Dream Team wherein it included Christian Laetner to join Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Michael Jordan. Maybe, we can apply that also as it will benefit both players in the long run.”

Al-Hussaini is this year’s Most Valuable Player in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines and piloted the Eagles to this year’s crown over fierce rival La Salle Archers.
Aguilar, son of former Ginebra Gin King player Peter Aguilar, played for the Western Kentucky University in the United States, but suffered an ACL injury that shortened his career.
