A Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) official has been tapped to work as referee in the coming South Korean Basketball League (KBL)-Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) All-Star Games to be held in Shanghai and Inchon, local television channel GMANews said Friday.
PBA technical chief Perry Martinez said Roberto Ting Jr, who has a deep background in FIBA competitions being an international referee, will work with a South Korean ref and another Chinese counterpart in the two-game spectacle to be held first in Pudong, China Sunday and the next match slated the following day in Inchon, South Korea.
Martinez said Ting will leaves for Shanghai Saturday, as the invitation given to Ting further underscores the competence of the referees in the local league.
"That's a big honor for the PBA. The message sent is that the other leagues acknowledge the job and competence of the PBA referees," Martinez said.
The PBA received the invitation from KBL official Hoon Sang Lee, in-charge for technical matters of the annual event.
The KBL-CBA meet is a keenly awaited basketball event in China and South Korea featuring the best and the brightest stars of the two nations, said the television report, adding that Chinese and South Koreans are among the acknowledged powers in Asian basketball.
"To be invited in such a prestigious undertaking by the KBL and the CBA is really a great honor," Martinez said.
