MANILA (PBA Commissioner’s Cup) - Air21 Express and Rain or Shine won Games 2 of their quarter-finals on Sunday to push their best-of-three series to decisive Games 3.

Air21, riding on Alpha Bangura’s game-high 40-point, held off a late charge by Alaska Aces to win 94-84, while Rain or Shine used some accurate outside shooting to beat Ginebra Kings 113-97.

Ginebra had taken the series opener 100-91 over Rain or Shine on Friday, while Alaska edged out Air21 Express 91-89.

Game 3 in both series is scheduled for Wednesday.

Bangura’s performance was highlighted by some key plays down the stretch.

The native of Sierra Leone grabbed two offensive rebounds and scored six points in the last 42 seconds to steer his side home.

He also grabbed nine rebounds, three assists and two blocks to underline his versatility.

“We were desperate, the guys don’t want to go home. They’re a good team but we just want it a little more than them,” said Bangura.

Air21 head coach Bong Ramos said his team on a quest.

“Maybe we’re destined to make the semi-finals going through these do-or-die games. Who knows, we might score another upset Wednesday,” he offered.

Leo Avenido came off the bench and contributed 15 points for Air21.

LA Tenorio had 18 points to pace Alaska.

Meanwhile, Ronjay Buenafe knocked down six of 11 three-pointers for 20 points to lead Rain or Shine.

“We shot the threes well, I don’t know if it’s asking too much but I wish we do it again next game,” said RoS coach Yeng Guiao.

“The crucial thing was that we’re able to start well. It’s also important that we contained their guards."

Larry Rodriguez had 17 points, Ryan Arana added 16 while Gabe Norwood and Doug Kramer chipped in with 11 each as RoS went 15 of 32 from three-point range.

Nate Brumfield led Ginebra with 28 points and 14 rebounds.
