MANILA (2011 FIBA Asia Championship) - Philippines coach Rajko Toroman has called Jimmy Alapag, Ranidel de Ocampo and Kelly Williams into his squad that is preparing for the FIBA Asia Championship.
The trio is competing in the PBA play-offs with Talk N Text and will join the national team in the next few days.
The players will have a chance to find some chemistry with the other Philippines players in Qatar at the Doha Four-Nations.
Lebanon, Syria and Qatar will also be taking part.
"Of course, this tournament is really for Kelly, Jimmy and Ranidel because we want them to mix well with the team since we only have about a month to prepare for Wuhan," Toroman said.
Wuhan is where the FIBA Asia Championship will be staged from September 15 to 25.
Toroman is hoping that his team's interior game will be boosted by the presence of Ocampo and Williams.
"I've been saying all these years that our main problem is at position four," Toroman said.
"We need toughness inside. That's what Kelly and Ranidel can give us, toughness and rebounding.
"That's the biggest point."
Toroman's team is in a positive frame of mind after recently coming in third place at the William Jones Cup in New Taipei City.
The winners of the FIBA Asia Championship will qualify for next year's London Games.
The sides that finish second and third will be invited to the 12-team FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
