MANILA (PBA Commissioner’s Cup) - Barangay Ginebra showed good cohesion with their import Nate Brumfield to beat Meralco Bolts 115-98 on Friday in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup opener.
Brumfield, who recently averaged 14.5 points per game for Pioneros in the Mexican league, impressed on his debut in the Philippines scoring a game-high 32 points – on 10 of 18 shooting – and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Mark Caguioa added 20, Willie Miller accounted for 16 points and Ronald Tubid chipped in with 15.
“It was good that the locals got adjusted relatively quickly to Nate’s style of play,” said Ginebra coach Jong Uichico.
“Of course, we have yet to see the other imports and he may not be as explosive or as flashy as the others, but he makes the team better.”
Meralco’s import, Anthony Danridge - who averaged 28.0 points per game in five games for Byblos in the Lebanese league - also made an impression finishing with 30 points, but it wasn't enough to lead his team to victory.
Philippine international Asi Taulava added 23 points in the loss.
