Gold Coast (Australia) - The Youth Coaching Webinar Course organized by FIBA's regional office in Oceania will commence on May 5 with Australian coach Darren Perry discussing the "Planning Practice and Session Plans" topic.
Perry, a veteran coach of over 20 years will share his knowledge with the Oceania Federations that will focus on coaching the youth.
"I’ve been mentoring coaches and players at junior level for the past 20 plus years for beginners through to elite as in the roles of High School Head Coach, Elite Program Head Coach and Coaching Director at large junior associations," shared Perry, currently the head coach of the Dandenong Rangers in SEABL NBL1.
"I prepared to deliver a session that alerts all new coaches to some of the ways we can help them prepare for the on-floor sessions," he added.
Perry, who serves as the coach of Australia's U19 Men's team believes that simplicity is the key to successfully teaching the game to youth players.
"I would like to arm the coaches with simple content to introduce players to the game and use each session to start to build a program that builds each player’s individual development," Perry said.
"As well as introduce and connect the players’ play to team concepts by the use of competitive games," he added.
To prepare for the webinar, Perry considered his audience and tailored his presentation to maximize his workshop's effectiveness with the participants.
"It’s always necessary to review your current resources, consider the coaching audience that will be tuning in and hopefully construct an easy to understand presentation that coaches can gain value from," Perry shared.
"My presentation will cover all the elements of preparing for the session, show some different ways to document your session, and talk about the most effective ways of instructing your players," he added.
Perry also shared his excitement in joining the webinar series and connect with the coaches in the region.
"I’m pleased to be collaborating with FIBA, Annie, and the coaching community in Oceania. The great game of basketball provides opportunities to interact with players and coaches from around the world and I certainly am looking forward to the upcoming session," he said.
