Participants consider WABC Level 1 coaching course in Iraq a success that will have great impact

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA Regional Office - Asia in coordination with Iraqi Basketball Federation (IBA) organized a Level 1 coaching course in Baghdad, Iraq from 20-25 June, 2023.

The course was conducted by WABC instructor Mounir Ben Slimane who saw 15 participants attend the course.

The participants were all engaged and ended the workshop with positive reactions.

Thamer Musafa, a participant who is a former national team and professional player and coach said: "The lectures were of a very high level, and the things that were touched on are of importance and have a very high value."

Husam Abdul Muttaleb, a participant who is a current head coach said: "The focus during the course was on updating the coaches with modern information, advanced training methods, and tactics necessary for the success of the team. Various topics were also addressed, such as the foundations of the game, individual tactics, and individual guidance to properly prepare coaches to work with sports teams.

Muttalab also mentioned how the coaches were provided with important and valuable experiences in developing their skills and strategies in training.

"One of the benefits of the course is that it gives the trainers an opportunity to communicate and exchange experiences with other trainers and introduce them to new and modern training techniques that they may not be familiar with. It can be said that this training course was a success and will have a great impact on the coaches who participated in it and on the sports teams with which they work. It will help coaches develop and improves their work as coaches and enhance the level of play for the sports teams they coach."

These courses are part of the Regional Office’s continuous efforts to improve the National Federations, including the coaches, who are an integral part of basketball games.
