Panama to host FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup 2027 Centrobasket Qualifiers

Panama City will host the tournament in December, with a direct berth to the continental championship at stake.

MIAMI (United States) – The FIBA Americas Regional Office announced that Panama City, Panama, will host the FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup 2027 Centrobasket Qualifiers scheduled to take place in December.

The competition, previously known as the FIBA U15 Women’s Centrobasket Championship, will bring together national teams from Central America and the Caribbean seeking to advance to the continental tournament.

The event is part of FIBA Americas' new youth competition system implemented this year to promote youth basketball development across the region. The qualifier will award one spot in the FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup 2027. A second spot may be available depending on the host designation for the continental championship, which will be announced soon.

Participation will be open to all national federations affiliated with the Central American and Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CONCENCABA). Countries must complete the corresponding registration process to secure their place in the competition.

Puerto Rico and Mexico will not take part in the qualifier, as they secured their places in the FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup 2027 by finishing as the top two Central American and Caribbean countries in the historical U16 standings. The rankings, as of January 1, 2026, served as the reference point for the implementation of FIBA’s new youth competition system in the Americas.
