:: WIN a trip to the FIBA World Championship Finals weekend ::

PANAMA CITY (FIBA World Championship) - Guillermo Vecchio has been unveiled as the new coach of the Panamanian national team.

The first goal for the Argentinian, who comes from coaching in the domestic BSN league, will be to win the gold medal in the Centrobasket tournament, which Panama will host between July 4-8.

“I came to Panama because I like challenges and this is one of them,” Vecchio said.

However, the Centrobasket championship is not the only aim. He also wants to win the Central American and Caribbean Sport Games in Cartagena, Colombia (July 15-30) and have a good performance in the upcoming FIBA World Championship.

Vecchio, who has previously managed the national teams of Argentina, Mexico and Venezuela, revealed he had a three-pronged vision.

He said: “Stage A is to win Centrobasket, stage B is to claim the gold medal in Cartagena, while stage C is to raise the national team up to 10th spot in the world rankings.”

Vecchio admitted it would not be easy but is happy to have inherited a squad of players who want to do well.

"To taste glory motivates everyone,” he added.

Panama were drawn in Group B of the World Championship, alongside New Zealand, Germany, Japan, Spain and Angola.
