    PAN/URU - Panama upsets Uruguay to get a win in the Quarterfinals

    SAN JUAN (2009 FIBA Americas Championship) - Panama managed an upset by beating Uruguay 83-77 on the second game of day two in the Quarterfinals played at Coliseo Roberto Clemente.

    Danilo Pinnock was the best scorer in most of the games for Panama, but this time he had support led by Jamar Warren who netted 25 points and Joel Muñoz 21 with 6 assists. Pinnock had 18 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.

    Uruguay won the first quarter 17-16 led by Reque Newsome who scored 8 points and for Panama Muñoz along with Warren netted 7 each.

    In the second quarter Uruguay pulled away at the end with an 11-0 run led by Esteban Batista, Leandro Garcia Morales and Gustavo Barrera to finish up 38-30. Batista led Uruguay with 12 points and 8 rebounds and for Panama Danilo Pinnock had 9.

    Panama came back in the third quarter and made a 10-0 run to take a 51-48 lead and finished up 58-57. Warren had 20 points, Muñoz 14 and Pinnock 11.

    In the final ten minutes Panama stayed on top led by their scoring trio while Uruguay showed their physical exhaustion and could not arm a consistent attack.

    Esteban Batista had 18 points with 11 rebounds; Gustavo Barrera netted 15 and Mauricio Aguiar along with Reque Newsome 12 each.
