VALENCIA (FIBA World Championship) - Pamesa Valencia have revealed that new signing Ruben Douglas will play for Panama at the FIBA World Championship.
Douglas, who came to the fore in Europe two seasons ago with a last-second three-pointer to clinch the Italian title for Climamio Bologna against Armani Jeans
Milano, did not play for his country at the FIBA Americas Championship in 2005.
The former New Mexico star has made a reputation as a big-game player, last season earning most valuable player honours when leading Dynamo Moscow to ULEB Cup glory.
"Douglas has decided to join his national team in order to prepare for the FIBA World Championship," Pamesa said on their website, www.pamesabasket.com.
"He will team up with another Valencia player, Ruben Garces, who took part in the CentroBasket earlier this month in Panama."
Panama won the gold medal at the CentroBasket after going through the tournament unbeaten.
They will fancy their chances of advancing from Group B of the FIBA World Championship, which also includes Germany, Spain, hosts Japan, Angola and New Zealand.
Panama made an unlikely run to qualify for next month's event as Douglas, Ruben Garces and Ed Cota all skipped last year's games in the Dominican Republic.
