The Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Islands aims to finalize some of its plans to further develop the sport of basketball in the CNMI.

BANMI vice president Elias Rangamar will organize a meeting tomorrow, May 19, at 9am at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room where he is inviting all basketball associations to attend.

Things to be discussed in the organizational meeting are the membership, the 19-and-under Marianas Basketball Tournament, and other upcoming leagues and events.

Rangamar added he will also discuss FIBA Oceania developmental officer Eddie Calic's itinerary. The basketball guru is planning to visit the CNMI sometime this year and the arrival. Arrangements for the visit of the Harlem Ambassadors will also be tackled during the meeting.

Rangamar has been hoping to unite all basketball leagues, associations, and groups under BANMI to further develop its grassroots program.

The meeting is open to representatives from various basketball organizations, associations, and league coordinators.

With the help of Rangamar and CNMI National coach Rufino Aguon, BANMI already formed separate associations for the women's and referees.

Once all associations are united under BANMI, this will make it easier for the Commonwealth's cage body to discover young and potential members of the CNMI National Team.

The scheduling of various leagues at the Ada Gym will also be organized where different associations can now use the facility based on the schedule.

Rangamar said presidents or any representative of various basketball groups in the CNMI could call him at 664-2502 to get more information.
