    Nigeria - Kano Pillars win Premier Basketball League

    Kano State recorded yet another historical victory when Kano Pillars Basketball team on Saturday emerged winners of this year's Premier League basketball competition, after 20 years. Pillars basketball team emerged winners at both Road Trip and Super 8 basketball league and they will now represent the country at the forthcoming African Clubs Basketball competition along with Niger Potters and Union Bank.

    Kano State recorded yet another historical victory when Kano Pillars Basketball team on Saturday emerged winners of this year's Premier League basketball competition, after 20 years.

    Pillars basketball team emerged winners at both Road Trip and Super 8 basketball league and they will now represent the country at the forthcoming African Clubs Basketball competition along with Niger Potters and Union Bank.

    The Final 8 Basketball League, which was held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Sani Abacha Sports Complex, Kofar Mata, attracted the top eight basketball clubs across the country, namely; Kano Pillars, Union Bank; Dodan Warriors, Lagos Islanders; Plateau Peak Niger Potters; Kano AHIP and Nigerian Customs.

    The Pyramid Boys narrowly snatched victory from Union Bank 87-85 to secure the continental ticket.

    Speaking after the final, the special guest of honour who is also the special adviser to Kano State Governor on Sports Development, Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad Mu'azu Kawu described the victory of the state as indication of the present administration's commitment to sports sector in the state.

    Alhaji Kawu said that the state government will continue to do its best to ensure that the state present formidable teams for both Kano Pillars football club and Pillars basketball team with a view to maintaining the impressive performance for the country.

    While congratulating Pillars basketball team, he charged other participating teams to redouble their efforts in the future championship.

    Also speaking the state's Director of Sports, Alhaji Ibrahim Abba pledged that the state sports council will do everything possible to fortify the team ahead of competition.

    He commended the state government for its support financially and morally and pledged that the team would not disappoint the country at the continental level.
