KANO (Nigeria Premier League) - Hope of Union Bank basketball club of Lagos of securing the much needed victories in the last leg of its road-trip to the Savannah Conference of the Nigeria Premier League was dashed at the weekend when after it suffered two quick loses to AHIP and Kano Pillars basketball clubs.
Before the all important match against AHIP basketball club last Saturday decided at the sports hall of the Sani Abacha Stadium Kano, Union Bank Technical Adviser Ayinla Johnson says nothing will stop his team from securing outright victory against the youthful Adolescent Health & Information Programme (AHIP) side but all that became history as the AHIP side handed the star-studded Union Bank team a 72-69 points defeat.
To further compound the woes of the Stallion Boys as the bankers are also known, Kano Pillars coach, Sanni Ahmed confirmed pre-game boasting of repeating what they did to the bankers in Lagos during their road game to the Atlantic Conference with a 72-64 points victory.
Union Bank thus end its road game to the Savannah Conference, the first by the club since it transformation of the club from Gboko Heat to Union Bank in 2003 with one outright win over Tapgun Rockets basketball club of Jos (77-71) while it await the decision of the technical committee of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, on its stalemated games against (Niger Potters – abandoned with just two minutes into the last quarter), against (Plateau Peaks – which did not commence after the visitor complained of poor visibility at the stadium) and against (Bauchi Net – did not commenced too due to the non-provision of gas to power the generating set by the host).
The Lagos-based bankers are expected back today just as Tapgun Rockets hit the road for the commencement of its own road trip with a game against Delta Force basketball club of Asaba at the sports hall of the Asaba Township Stadium.
