LAGOS (Basketball Clinic) - History was made last Saturday at the Warriors Basketball Academy Sports and Leisure Centre, Ilupeju, Lagos when the first monthly "Stay-In-School-With-Basketball" Clinic dunks off.
Academy director Peter Favour Ahmedu was full of praises for over 60 kids that turned out for the clinic which draws the crème of Nigerian coaches as about 8 coaches were on hand to teach the joyous kids the basics fundamentals of the game.
Junior Tigers head coach, Adeka Dauda was on hand to coordinate activities of the day while other coaches such as, Nigeria Senior Female National team head coach, Scott Nnaji, Emma Okolo of the University of Lagos, Lateef Folami of the Kenneys’ Bullets basketball club, Dodan warriors head coach Owoicho Alexandra and his assistant, Dave Omohke gave their all to the kids who were drawn from five different Secondary (High) Schools in Lagos.
The young Ahmedu says the clinic is to serve as an avenue where kids within the school age can be taught the basic fundamentals of basketball which according to him is lacking in most schools.
The kids were taking through such drills as ball handling techniques, dribbling, defense and offense motion and shooting.
Academy deputy director, Simon Evbuomwan who was in charge of logistics says this is just the beginning of to expect from the Warriors Academy.
The next clinic has been fixed for the third Saturday of April as the Dodan Warriors basketball club prepare for an international engagement in Spain later this month.
