ABEOKUTA (National Sports Festival) - Head coach of Team Ogun female basketball team ageless Alabi Adelanwa has declared that the technical crew of the Otunba Gbenga Daniels girls will not leave any stone unturned in its bid to capture the female basketball gold medal.

Speaking in an exclusive interview shortly after the Oluchi Nzekwe inspired Team Ogun girls to rout Bauchi 62-36 points in the last group-A game Thursday, the former international referee said the game plan of the coaching crew of Team Ogun basketball team which comprises of himself, Mark Balogun and Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and youthful Oke Abayomi was to win medals in both categories but the male team failed to make it to the semi-finals stage.

Adelanwa was optimistic that the Team Ogun female squad will surpass it semi-final duel against hard fighting Delta State in the first semi-final billed for Saturday at the Alake Sports Centre, Abeokuta while the second female semi-finals is between Lagos and Bauchi State.

The male semi-finals pairing will see the four surviving teams slug it out for the final ticket which guaranteed the two finalist medals.

In the first semi-final group-A leader Lagos State will do battle against Delta State while sports festival defending champion, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will engage rampaging Bayelsa in a game of wit.

The third place matches holds on Sunday while the two finals come up on Monday.
Sounding confident coach Adelanwa said the Team Ogun girls are double charged and are prepared to crush any opposition to win the gold medal as a thank you gift for state hard working governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniels whom he described as a loveable gentleman.

He, however, appealed to the governor to look in the direction of other sports as a way of showcasing the rich heritage of the people of Ogun State as foremost sports men and women in Nigeria.

With over 45 years as a sportsman and administrator coach Adelanwa want the governor to give his blessing to the formation of Gateway Basketball Club to compliment the state-owned football club.
