ABUJA (National Men/Women leagues) – The Nigerian Federation is meeting with all basketball stakeholders in the country as the Federation moves to the second stage of kick starting the 2009/10 season. The meeting is billed to hold at the Abuja National Stadium on Saturday, January 30th.

The gathering will have the NBBF meet with the representatives of all teams in the national male and female leagues (DStv for male and Zenith Bank for female league), representatives of the coaches, referees council, statisticians and the media. This type of meeting which has been a regular pre-season event in the last four years will enable the Federation members, teams and officiating officials rub minds on all issues concerning the forthcoming leagues. Such matters as funding for the leagues, new sponsorship drives, and remuneration for officiating officials, rules, regulation and discipline for the competition will be put on table. Local and international transfer of players which still lacks proper coordination in the Nigerian system will also be on the table.

The DStv League is billed to take the jump ball towards the end of February while the ladies’ Zenith League is scheduled for March. The exact start off dates for these flagship competitions will also be discussed in the weekend meeting. Invitation letters were sent out to delegates a fortnight ago.
