Zaria (FIBA Africa Championship for Women) - Head coach of the Nigeria senior female national team, Scott Nnaji is confident that the defending champion would retain the FIBA Africa Championship holding in Senegal from September 21 through 30.
Speaking in an exclusive telephone chat with www.fiba-africa.com Tuesday the Nigeria Customs Officer says the players are in high spirit to lift the trophy for a record third time after winning in 2003 (Mozambique) and 2005 (Nigeria) and book the automatic Beijing Olympic Games tickets.
The light skin coach of the Nigerian side says all the players have reported to camp which was moved from Nigeria capital, Abuja to Zaria for convenience except team captain, Mfon Udoka, Mactabene Amacrere and Rashidat sodiq whom he said would join others in camp before the final list is announced Thursday.
Fourteen players were called to camp by the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF last week with twelve foreign base and two home base among them are the trio of Udoka Amacrere and Sodiq who are still being awaited, others include, Chioma Udeaja of First Bank Elephant Girls basketball club of Lagos, Kikelomo Saliu of Sunshine Angels of Akure, Ononiwu Chisaokwu, Eworomadu Joyce, Oha Ugochukwu, Egenti Charity, Mojidi Sefi, Tairu S. Abidemi, Marie Izidor Enjol, Sanni Olayinka and Okorie Mercy. The technical crew is led by Kevin Cook as Technical Adviver, Nnaji - Head Coach and Adewumi Aderemi as Assisatnt coach.
