LAGOS (Africa Wheelchair Basketball Championship) - The sixteen players selected at the end of a rigorous screening exercise of over fifty Wheelchair basketball players from across the country would this Sunday resume close camping ahead the Africa Championship billed for Johannesburg, South Africa between September 30 and October 6 this year.
Head coach of the Nigerian team O’Brien Adoki told our correspondent recently that the sixteen players at the end of the week-long screening exercise conducted recently would be camped at the National Institute for Sports, NIS, for two weeks before jetting out to Johannesburg on September 28.
Adoki further explained that the team camping exercise is been undertaken by frontline Oil & Gas firm, First Deepwater Discovery Limited.
The senior lecturer of the nation’s foremost sports institute says just as First Deepwater Discovery came to its rescue during the opening screening exercise, the company headed by Engr. Babatunde Babalola is at it again by agreeing to foot the bill for the two weeks camping exercise and the championship proper.
He therefore, charge the players to use the opportunity the camping exercise would provide to prove themselves as only twelve players will make the final list to the Africa Championship which double as 2009 World Championship Qualifiers.
President of the Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Association, NMBBA, Prince Adesina Adeyemi thanked the boss of First Deepwater Discovery Limited, Engr. Babalola for identifying with the physically challenge basketball players by bankrolling the camping and going to South Africa for the championship proper.
An elated Prince Adeyemi promised that the team will not disappoint during the championship.
Winner of the Africa Championship will represent the continent at the World Championship in France next year.
