LAGOS (African Club Championship for Women) - The two clubs that will represent Nigeria at the FIBA Africa Zone-3 elimination billed for Cotonou, Republic of Benin next month, First Bank and Dolphins basketball clubs have intensify their training ahead the qualifiers.
Though date for the qualifiers is yet to be fixed but report has it that the zone’s elimination would hold after the 20th FIBA Africa Championship for Women in Dakar, Senegal.
Zone-3 President, Muktar Khaleh said his desire is to see the combined elimination of the Women and Men so that the zone can present its four representative (two Men and two women teams) for the grand finale of the continent’s apex club championships holding in Mozambique (Women – October 19-28) and Angola (Men – November).
First Bank have since moved into close camp at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria while Dolphins who train at its home court at the Punch
Estate in Lagos is considering moving into close camp this weekend with the aim of clinching one of the tickets to represent the zone at the
finals.
Both team (First Bank and Dolphins) book the ticket to represent Nigeria after finishing first and second in the Zenith Bank/NBBF Women
Premier league in June this year while the league department of the Nigeria federation is mapping out plans to have a one-off championship for the 13 clubs in the nation’s premier league to determine the two teams that will fly the country flag at the zonal eliminations.
