KADUNA (National female league) - Dolphins of Lagos drilled Nigeria Immigrations Service 80-24 on Thursday as the Zenith Bank Female Basketball League continued in Kaduna on Day Two. The match was the fourth match of the day in the Nigerian league that started Thursday with all 10 teams in the country’s premier league for women participating.

The wide margin was not exceptional to that game as Delta Force of Asaba also defeated AHIP of Kano 63-37 while First Deepwater who are playing their very first season cut Nigeria Customs 66-22. Customs coach Scott Nnaji attributed their poor performance to the health conditions of some of his key players.

“Today (Friday) can be described as one of those days players wake up on the wrong side the bed so to say. We had serious medical problems going into the game against Deepwater. Three of my players woke up quite sick but we had very little choice as they are still just 10 on ground; the other players are on their way to Kaduna. The worse was that the sick ones were mainly the perimeter players so it was quite tasking organising our offensive play particularly. But by tomorrow you’ll see the difference. We’ll bounce back to make up for this,” Nnaji said.

After two days of competition only the defending champions First Bank and the Deepwater are yet to lose a game. The Elephant Girls, as the Bankers are also known in the West African country, won all 27 matches last season to emerge winners. This term it is hoped that the Deepwater ladies will give them a good fight. The matches will continue through the week with five matches on each day and will play through to July 12 when the first phase will round off.
