LAGOS (Lagos City League) - The playoffs of the third edition of the Lagos City Basketball league is set to dunk-offs this weekend at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Lagos National Stadium with the top eight teams in the regular season taking on each other on a knock-out basis before proceeding to a final-4 playoffs.
The format was adopted at a stake-holders meeeting of club owners/represenattives and members of the Lagos State Basketball Association led by its Chairman Babs Ogunade last Wednesday at the Rowe Park Sports Centre, Yaba, Lagos.
The four teams to emerged from this arrangement will move to play a three-day round-robin to be decided between 13th and 15th of this month while the top two teams at the end of the round-robin exercise move on to a Best-of-Three-Game Series to determine the best team for 2007 in the Centre of Excellence.
On Saturday regular season league leader, Union Bank basketball club will take on youthful Warriors Academy who finished eighth after 22 matches of the regular season at 15.00 hours while second placed Dodan Warriors battles seventh place Chariot basketball club at 17.00 hours.
Former Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, Premier league champion who finished as the third best team in the regular season, Ebun Comets basketball club will take to the court against rejuvenated Police Bombers basketball club who finished sixth at 15.00 hours on Sunday as City league defending champion, Kennys’ Bullets fight for a final-4 slot against Toyin Sonoiki Islanders at 17.00 hours also on Sunday.
