NGR - City league: Islanders subdue Comets in epic clash

LAGOS (Lagos City League) - Two oldest rivals in Nigeria basketball, Islanders and Ebun Comets basketball clubs thrills basketball fans Sunday at the sports hall of the Lagos National Stadium in week-7C of the Lagos City League. 

The match which was dubbed the “Star-Match-Of-The-Week” attracted large turn-out of fans who defy the heavy down pour to be part of the match that lived up to its billing with Islanders drawing the first blood.

Islanders parading the like of Abba Usman, Joshua Agbona, Bayo Adeniyi, Kelvin Dandison, Azeez Oladimeji were a torn in the flesh of the Comets players winning the first two quarters easily (19-09) and (18-14) for a half-time score of 37-23 points.

Comets have to rely on it bench to take the game to the Islanders matching the more physically fit Toyin Sonoiki tutored Islanders skill for skill and strength for strength as both sides ends the third quarter with 20 points apiece, pendulum, however, changed in favour of the Comets team as small forward George Ehiagwina uses one of his trademark 3-point shooting to close an 18 points margin for his team which kept the fans cheering all the way with Comets winning the fourth quarter 25-15 points but that was not good enough as Islanders ran away with a 72-68 points victory.

The lose means Comets is now 10-4 but still retain its third spot on the league table with 24 points while Islanders is 6th with 23 points as police Bombers move two steps up to 4th place with 24 points, Kennys' Bullets drop to 5th with 23 points while Union Bank and Dodan Warriors retain the first and second placement with 28 and 27 points respectively.

Other results of matches decided on Sunday Police Bombers defeated Warriors Kadets 51-35 points while Chariot manage a 43-41 points victory over Warriors Academy.
