IRAPUATO (Mexico) – The start of the FIBA U16 Women’s AmeriCup 2025 brought a flurry of record-breaking performances. Teams have already rewritten the tournament's history book just two days into the tournament at the Inforum in Irapuato, Mexico. USA displayed its offensive strength from the opening tip against Puerto Rico, and Mexico stood out in its debut thanks to a stellar performance from its perimeter players. Here are the team and individual records set so far during the Group Phase of the tournament, which offers four qualifying spots for the FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026:
Most three-pointers in a game by a team
16 - MEX vs. PAN The hosts opened with a record-breaking shooting display, surpassing the previous mark of 13 set by Puerto Rico against Costa Rica in 2021. Mariana Díaz led the charge with 4 triples, followed by Valeria Aguilar with 3. Nine players contributed at least one three-pointer.
Most points in a game by a team
138 - USA vs. PUR United States surpassed the mark midway through the fourth quarter on Day 2 in their matchup against Puerto Rico. They eclipsed their own previous record of 128, set against the Dominican Republic in 2009. Reece Gilpatrick was perfect from the field, going 9-for-9 and finishing with 20 points. Tatianna Griffin and Ivanna Wilson added 18 points each.
Highest combined score in a game
176 - USA 138-38 PUR USA’s offensive explosion also led to the highest combined score in a single game. The previous record was 169, set by the United States and Mexico (126-43) during the Group Phase in 2021.
Most points in a quarter by a team
46 - USA vs. PUR The five highest totals in this category now belong to the United States. In the first quarter, they scored 46 points, surpassing the 41 they tallied against Mexico in the 2023 Group Phase. Ivanna Wilson scored 13 of those points in those 10 minutes. In the third quarter against Puerto Rico, they added another 41.
Most field goals made in a game by a team
55 - USA vs. PUR USA converted 55 of 94 field goal attempts, shooting an impressive 58.5 percent from the floor. The total included 48 two-pointers and seven three-pointers. The previous record (54) was also held by the United States, set against Costa Rica four years ago.
Most steals in a game by a player
10 - Ivanna Wilson vs. PUR The forward joined Gileysa Penzo (Puerto Rico) and Juju Watkins (USA) as the only players to record double-digit steals in a game since 2013.
