    New and returning 3x3 basketball events signal stronger partnership between FIBA and Singapore

    Multi-year collaboration brings multiple FIBA 3x3 events to Singapore from 2026 to 2031

    SINGAPORE - Sport Singapore (SportSG) and FIBA have further solidified their partnership to host several international FIBA 3x3 basketball events from 2026 to 2031.

    Starting with the Lion City Challenger in June 2026, fans can look forward to two FIBA 3x3 Challenger events and one FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series event each year till 2031. This reflects a shared commitment to further grow the sport in Singapore and cement Singapore’s position as a premier destination for world-class sporting events. Having hosted the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup from 2022 to 2026, and the FIBA Intercontinental Cup from 2023 to 2025, Singapore has built a strong foundation for this expanded partnership.

    These events also present invaluable opportunities for Singapore's national players to compete regularly against top-ranked international athletes on home ground. The experience and exposure are central to SportSG's efforts to sharpen the skills of our Team Singapore athletes and cultivate the next generation of basketball talent, while broadening the sport's appeal and raising awareness across the wider community.

    FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup to Return from 2028

    The FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup will also be returning to Singapore in 2028 for another four-year run, building on the strong foundation established since 2022. The event has grown in stature each year, drawing increasing numbers of fans and serving as a key platform for regional competition.

    Singapore Gets Ready for FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2027

    Riding on the momentum, sports fans can also look forward to the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2027, which will mark the first time the pinnacle event of 3x3 basketball is held in Southeast Asia,. Singapore officially received the hosting rights of the prestigious event following the successful conclusion of the 3x3 World Cup 2026 in Poland where Latvia and United States were crowned the Men’s and Women’s champions.

    With Singapore preparing to welcome the world’s top teams in 2027, the community can look forward to catching four FIBA 3x3 events annually. The series of 3x3 basketball events kicks off with the Lion City Challenger on 20 and 21 June 2026. The FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series, and the Singapore Challenger will be taking place on 13-14 and 15-16 August respectively. More details about the events will be announced in due course.

    3x3 basketball is FIBA’s official urban discipline and one of the fastest-growing Olympic sports. It is the most thrilling urban sport in the world. Played on a half-court with a 12-second shot clock, 3x3 basketball is a 10-minute sprint where the first team-21 wins.

    The sport’s competition structure includes the FIBA 3x3 World Tour, the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series, and the FIBA 3x3 World Cup and continental Zone Cups and a Champions Cup. The discipline made its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 and returns at Paris 2024 and LA 2028.
