AMSTERDAM (2012 FIBA U17 World Championship for Women) – The Netherlands Basketball Federation (NBB) has announced that the foundation A Sister’s Hope will be collaborating with the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championship for Women, to be held from 17 to 26 August in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

It is the first time that such a partnership is formed between a charity and a FIBA Youth World Championship.

The NBB, hosts and co-organisers of the tournament, had it in mind from the very start to team up with a charity and began holding talks with A Sister’s Hope at an early stage and these talks resulted in this partnership.

During the World Championship in Amsterdam, the NBB and A Sister’s Hope will work together to increase awareness as well as raise money for the charity while promoting girls in sport and the event itself.

A Sister’s Hope raises money for breast cancer research. In the last five years, it has raised more than €3.5 million.

“I am thrilled that the U17 World Championship for Women is adding the component of partnering with A Sister’s Hope," said A Sister’s Hope founder Cathy Seabaugh.

"The team at the NBB is proving itself a leader with these efforts. This approach was chosen consciously. If breast cancer strikes someone close to these young women, they can feel they are already part of the effort to save that precious life.”

It is the first time for both the NBB and for FIBA, the International Basketball Federation, that one of their youth events has had a partnership with such a good cause.

“We are very proud to host this World Championship and are delighted to attach such a great charity to this event," said NBB Secretary General Jan-Wim Stals.

"I am confident that this partnership will succeed in raising awareness for the mission of A Sister’s Hope."
