WASHINGTON (NBA) - Houston didn't have injured star Tracy McGrady on the floor on Tuesday but they didn't need him as Yao Ming led the team past the Washington Wizards.
Yao, the Chinese national team center, played almost 40 minutes and had 21 points and nine rebounds as Houston won 92-84 in the American capital to improve to 18-17 on the season.
Rookie Luis Scola, the most valuable player of the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship after leading Argentina to the silver medal, played more than 19 minutes and had nine rebounds to go with his four points.
Washington dropped to 17-16.
The red-hot Los Angeles Lakers won for the 22nd time this season at the expense of the Memphis Grizzlies (10-24).
Derek Fisher had 26 points and Kobe Bryant 25 for the Lakers (22-11) in a 117-101 win.
