DALLAS (NBA) - The Los Angeles Lakers and surprising Atlanta Hawks remained undefeated in the NBA on Tuesday.
LA trailed for three quarters at the Dallas Mavericks but finally went in front in the fourth before posting a 106-99 win to improve to 6-0.
Kobe Bryant, one of Team USA’s leading players this summer in their gold-medal run at the Beijing Games, had 27 points and Spain’s silver-medal winning Paul Gasol scored 22 while grabbing 11 rebounds.
Germany’s Dirk Nowitzki finished with 14 points, the last of which he scored early in the third quarter. Nowitzki also fouled out of the contest.
The Hawks are flying high at 6-0 as well after a 113-108 victory at Chicago.
Al Horford scored 27 points and hauled in 17 rebounds while his former teammate with the Florida Gators, Joakim Noah, had just two points and eight boards in 27 minutes.
Great Britain international Luol Deng poured in 19 points and pulled down 11 boards for the Bulls, who slumped to 3-5.
The San Antonio Spurs dug deep and overcame the absences of Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili to win at home over Mike D’Antoni’s New York Knicks.
Parker sprained his ankle last week just two days after hitting a career-high 55 points and Ginobili is still recovering from ankle surgery.
On Tuesday, Tim Duncan scored 23 points in a 92-80 win.
Ginobili’s fellow Argentina star Fabricio Oberto had nine rebounds to go with his six points.
Latvia’s Andris Biedrins continues to put up all-star numbers with Golden State and they took advantage with a 113-110 win at home over Minnesota.
Biedrins had 15 rebounds to go with his 13 points.
In other games, Allen Iverson tasted victory for the first time since joining Detroit in a trade with Denver when the Pistons prevailed 100-82 at Sacramento.
Iverson had 30 points and nine assists in the triumph.
Utah won 93-80 over the Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland defeated visiting Milwaukee 99-93 and Denver won at home over Charlotte, 88-80.
