LOS ANGELES (NBA) - Pau Gasol’s double-double and a career-high 24 points by Jordan Farmar propelled the Los Angeles Lakers to a 106-88 victory over the Miami Heat on Thursday.

Gasol had 13 points and 11 rebounds, and also blocked four shots as LA improved to 41-17 while dropping the Heat to an NBA-worst 10-45 just two seasons removed from their championship success.

With Gasol in the line-up, the Lakers are could be the team to beat in the Western Conference. They have won 11 of 12 games since acquiring Gasol, Spain’s 2006 FIBA World Championship MVP, from the Memphis Grizzlies.

"When you are winning as often as we do, that confidence builds up," Gasol said. "We’re going to try and keep it going, don’t relax and don’t get too flat and don’t get too confident, either."

Gasol has averaged 20.7 points and 7.7 rebounds since joining the Lakers from Memphis, a performance that has helped LA win 11 of 12 games.

One of the teams the Lakers may have to overcome in their pursuit of the title is Tony Parker’s San Antonio Spurs.

The France point guard is still not back to his best after missing several games with an ankle injury but San Antonio are still winning games.

The Spurs (39-17) defeated Dirk Nowitzki’s Dallas Mavericks 97-94 with Tim Duncan pouring in 31 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.

Parker had 10 points, four assists and five rebounds while Argentina superstar Manu Ginobili scored 17 with five helpers and five boards.

Nowitzki drilled 17 of his 21 attempts at the free throw line on his way to 28 points but the Germany international was just six of 17 from the floor, including one of two from long range.

    Dallas slipped to 38-20.

The other day’s game saw the New Jersey Nets beat the Milwaukee Bucks 120-106.
