ORLANDO (NBA) - Team USA's Dwight Howard put forth another MVP type of performance to lead the Orlando Magic to a convincing win over fellow Eastern Conference title contenders Cleveland.

Howard was nine of 15 from the floor en route to 22 points and he also corralled 18 rebounds in a 99-88 victory.

The Olympic gold-medal winner dominated on defense as well, swatting two shots and coming up with two steals.

Turkey's Hedo Turkoglu was very solid, too, contributing 19 points and 11 boards to Orlando's cause.

LeBron James, Howard’s teammate last summer at the Beijing Games, finished with 23 points but was just 10 of 27 from the field.

James also had eight rebounds and eight assists.

The result leaves the Magic at 35-10, one loss worse off than Cleveland (35-9).

Defending champions Boston, who are in first place at 38-9, were idle.

In the NBA's only other game on Thursday, San Antonio won 114-104 at Phoenix.

Argentina international Manu Ginobili had 30 points and nine rebounds for the Spurs, who also got huge games from France's Tony Parker and big man Tim Duncan.

France point guard Parker scored 26 and dished out five assists while Duncan weighed in with 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.

San Antonio had a shaky start to the season with Ginobili recovering from ankle surgery but they are now 31-14 and in second place in the Western Conference behind the Los Angeles Lakers (35-9).
