    BOSTON (NBA) - Marc Gasol proved he’s a man for the big occasion with a double-double on Wednesday night in leading the Memphis Grizzlies to victory in Boston.

    The Spain national team center had 11 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and two blocks as the Grizzlies won 90-87.

    Having lost Rudy Gay to season-ending shoulder surgery, the Grizzlies are fighting to stay in the top eight of the Western Conference.

    The victory at Boston improved Memphis' record to 40-32 and kept them in eighth place, two games clear of Houston (38-34).

    Gasol & Co are now just a half-game behind seventh-place New Orleans (40-31) and one and a half adrift of sixth-place Portland (41-30).

    Houston prevailed 131-112 at home against Golden State with Argentina's Luis Scola pouring in 20 points and corralling 10 rebounds and fellow Rocket Goran Dragic of Slovenia contributing 14 points.

    The Western Conference's fifth-place team, Denver (43-29), won 115-112 over visiting San Antonio.

    Al Harrington came off the bench to spark the Nuggets with 27 points.

    Sixth-place Philadelphia (37-34) won 105-100 at home over Atlanta and pulled two games clear of seventh-place New York, who were beaten 111-99 at Madison Square Garden by Orlando.

    The Knicks are now below .500 at 35-36 after falling for the seventh time in eight games.

    Indiana, who are eighth in the East, won 111-88 at Charlotte.

    The Pacers now have a three-game lead over the Bobcats and Milwaukee (both 28-42), who were upset 97-90 at home by Sacramento.

    Slovenian Beno Udrih scored 25 points for the Kings (18-52).

    Miami won 100-94 but are still third in the East and two and a half games adrift of leaders Chicago.

    In other games, New Jersey won 98-94 over Cleveland, Oklahoma City prevailed 106-94 at home against Utah, Phoenix beat visiting Toronto 114-106 and the Los Angeles Clippers defeated  Washington in double overtime, 127-119.
