DALLAS (NBA) – Puerto Rico’s Jose Barea hit a go-ahead three-pointer with 50 seconds remaining to cap a terrific comeback for Dallas as the Mavericks beat the Los Angeles Clippers 100-98.
Barea, who played at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament this summer in Athens, had 15 points and six assists overall.
The Mavs had trailed by 15 points but stormed back, with Barea's three- ball capping an 18-4 run.
The Clippers had a chance to win at the but Baron Davis' attempt from behind the arc with just over a second remaining bounced off the front of the rim.
Expect to see Barea in the line-up more often. In the Mavs' game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday, he had 10 points and nine assists only for Dallas to lose that game 114-107.
Germany's Dirk Nowitzki had 29 points as the Mavs improved to 9-8 while the woeful Clippers dropped to 3-14.
The Denver Nuggets remained red hot and destroyed the Toronto Raptors 132-93.
Chauncey Billups, acquired in an early-season trade with Detroit, had 24 points and 14 assists and Carmelo Anthony scored 23 for Denver.
Brazil center Nené had another big game as well, pouring in 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Denver are flying at 13-6 while disappointing Toronto are struggling at 8-9.
