VERACRUZ (LNBP) - Halcones Xalapa continued their 100% record to stay top of the Mexican Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional (LNBP) with a 12-0 record.

Xalapa, the 2005 champions, lead the Southern Zone and the overall standings after two wins over arch rivals Halcones Veracruz.

Victor Avila top-scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Xalapa in Thursday's 95-83 win, with Samuel Bowie pouring in 14 and Gustavo Ayon 12.

A more convincing win was to come when Xalapa hammered Veracruz 92-73 on Saturday night, with Ayon top-scoring with 20 points and Victor Mariscal and Cristian Lopez contributed 16 apiece.

Santos Reales are second in the overall standings with a 10-2 campaign which puts them top of the Northern Zone.

Daniel Frola's side beat Correcaminos Victoria 82-74 on Thursday, with Arim Abdul Solares pouring in 22 points.

Two days later, both teams moved to San Luis Potosi and Santos Reales prevailed again winning 94-80.

Lobos Grises and Halcones Cordoba are level on a 9-3 campaign.

Durango-based Lobos Grises edged out Algodoneros 99-88 on Thursday in the Northern Zone, but they lost 78-71 to Dorados from Culiacan on Saturday night.

Halcones Cordoba claimed an 80-76 away-triumph over Tecos in the Southern Zone. It was an important victory because Tecos are very close to Halcones in fourth place.

Halcones then moved to Culiacan to beat Caballeros 101-92.

The reigning champions Soles have claimed just five wins from 12 games. Their fifth win occurred on Thursday, when they saw-off Lobos Cuahuila 93-84 at home, but on Saturday they stumbled to a 108-102 extra-time loss to Fuerza Regia.

Greg Lewis top-scored with 31 points for Soles, but the Monterrey-based team won thanks to Fred Hooks and Gerrick Rivera, who netted 29 and 25 points respectively.

The world's tallest player Sun Ming Ming, who stands at seven-foot nine inches (2m36), was on court for eight minutes and recorded two points (two free-throws), two rebounds, two personal fouls and one turnover.
