MEXICALI (LNBP) - Soles de Mexicali came from behind to win for the first time in Mexico's LNBP Finals on Friday against Halcones UV Xalapa.
After dropping Games 1 and 2 in Xalapa, Soles returned home and prevailed 88-80 with Greg Lewis tearing the visitors apart with 32 points.
Game 4 is on Saturday night in Mexicali.
Xalapa looked to be headed for a third straight triumph after racing into a 14-point lead in the final minute of the second quarter before going to half-time with a 40-28 advantage.
Soles returned to the court a different team in the third quarter.
Lewis and Anthony Pedroza each scored four points in an 8-0 surge to begin the second half for Mexicali as they reduced the deficit to 40-36.
Soles still trailed 44-40 with 6:01 to go in the third.
Lewis, James Penny and DeJuan Wheat with a three-ball sparked a 12-0 run that spanned three minutes and 20 seconds and left the home side with a 52-46 lead.
Two Lewis free throws gave the hosts their biggest advantage at 59-41 with 24 seconds to go in the frame.
Dontae Truitt's trey reduced the arrears to 66-63 with 5:41 to play in the game, but Wheat answered immediately with a shot from the arc to put Soles back in front by six.
They stayed in control the rest of the way.
Wheat enjoyed his best game of the Finals with 17 points and Pedroza scored 13.
Horacio Llamas had 14 rebounds to go with his 11 points.
Truitt scored 22 and Mexico international Gustavo Ayon 16 for Xalapa.
