CULIACAN (National Team) - Mexico's preparations for the FIBA Americas Championship have continued with five friendly wins over the past 10 days.

Nolan Richardson's side began their run of matches against Liga Nacional sides with a 114-72 win over a combined San Antonio-Pioneros team on July 27 in Cancun.

One day later, Hector Hernandez netted 23 points and Gustavo Ayon added 18 as the Mexicans beat the same side 114-57.

On July 30, Mexico thrashed San Antonio-Pioneros 128-69 in Playa del Carmen, Romel Beck top-scoring with 35 points and Enrique Zuniga contributing 20.

That victory helped Mexico finish the tour around Quintana Roo state with a 3-0 record, but games continued in the first week of August.

Last Thursday, Mexico travelled to Sinaloa state to play Caballeros and beat them 110-70 in Guasave.

Beck paced the Tricolor with 21 points, while Arim Solares and Zuniga poured in 16 each.

On Saturday, Mexico saw off Caballeros again, this time 121-93.

Next up for Mexico is a trip to El Paso, Texas, to meet San Antonio-Pioneros again on August 10, before moving onto Tijuana to tackle Galgos.

The FIBA Americas Championship, which will take place in Las Vegas from August 22 to September 2, will see Mexico play in Group A, alongside Panama, Uruguay, Argentina and Puerto Rico.

The competition hands two berths to the 2008 Olympic Games.
