MEXICO CITY (FIBA Americas U20 Championship for Women) – The United States and Brazil have booked their places in the 2007 World Championship after an unbeaten start to the U20 FIBA Americas Championship for Women.
The US destroyed Mexico 124-38 on Thursday and Bahamas 114-23 on Friday, while Brazil hammered Puerto Rico 99-68 and Mexico 112-45.
USA head-coach Joanne McCallie said: “This is a very talented team that is going to really dominate some other teams.
“The idea was stopping scores in the paint or shots in the paint and making each of those worth 10 points for Bahamas. We did not press in any way. We also rewarded for taking charges and proper footwork.
“The game was determined quite early, and they have to understand that they need to be motivated by other things.”
Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas are still fighting for the final place in the 2007 World Championship.
Canada head the chasing pack on six points after beating Bahamas 87-38 and Puerto Rico 85-52, while Puerto Rico and Mexico have five points and Bahamas four.
Brazil and United States meet in the final round of games to decide top spot, while Bahamas face Puerto Rico and Canada meet Mexico.
