KAUNAS (LKL) - Zalgiris Kaunas beat defending champions Lietuvos Rytas 95-69 in Game 5 of the finals at Kaunas Sports hall to clinch the series 4-1.

With the win, Zalgiris took their first domestic league championship since 2008.

The home side got off to a good start, building a double-digit lead in the opening period and rarely looked back after Aleksandar Capin's three-pointer put them up 54-32 advantage at the break.

“I want to congratulate my players and staff for a job well done," Zalgiris head coach Ilias Zouros said afterwards.

"I’m proud to work at a club like Zalgiris."

The game was a fitting farewell to Kaunas Sports Hall, which had been the site of many memorable moments in Lithuanian basketball over the last 70 years.

Tadas Klimavicius had 18 points and 10 rebounds in the win while Paulius Jankunas and DeJuan Collins had a dozen each.

Kenan Bajramovic paced Lietuvos Rytas with 13 points. Darryl Strawberry and Jonas Valanciunas had 12 and 11 respectively.

The result caps off a memorable season for the club as they went undefeated in the domestic league and won the Lithuanian Cup as well as the Baltic League.
