VILNIUS (FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament) – The road to the London Games for Lithuania passes through Caracas, Venezuela, where they will be among the 12 sides to compete at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT).

At the event, which tips off on the 2nd of July, three national teams will earn trips to the Olympics.

What remains uncertain is where Lithuania will warm up for Caracas.

Houston, Texas, is one possibility for a 10-day training camp and Sao Paulo, Brazil, is another.

In Sao Paulo, the plan is to have a friendly tournament that could include New Zealand and Greece, two other sides that will be at the OQT.

“The final decision about the training camp should belong to the coach of the team, Kestutis Kemzura,” Lithuanian Basketball Federation (LKF) Secretary General Mindaugas Balciunas said to lrytas.lt.

“Brazil is pushing hard to get the Lithuanian team to come. The proposed conditions are great, the tournament is solid and some of our expenses would be covered as well.”

Lithuania hosted EuroBasket 2011 and clinched a fifth-place finish, which sealed a trip to the OQT.

The men’s national team has competed at every Olympics since 1992.
