ATHENS (Euroleague) - Olympiacos have suffered a setback in their bid to challenge Panathinaikos for the Greek title and reach the Euroleague Final Four in Athens with the loss of summer signing Arvydas Macijauskas to a ruptured Achilles tendon.

The shooting guard, who played for Lithuania at the FIBA World Championship this summer in Japan, suffered the injury in a pre-season friendly against Scafati at the weekend.

He was operated on on Monday and is expected to return to action in January.

Macijauskas decided to return to Europe this season after being used sparingly last year in his rookie NBA campaign with the New Orleans Hornets.

In the two years before his disappointing sojourn to America, he played for Tau Ceramica and helped them reach the Euroleague final in Moscow in 2005.

He should be fully fit in time for EuroBasket 2007 in Spain when the Lithuanians challenge for gold.
