KAUNAS (FIBA U17 World Championship) – Lithuania coach Darius Dikciu has chosen the 12 players that will represent the Baltic nation at the FIBA U17 World Championship in Hamburg.
The event tips off on July 2, with Lithuania in Group A alongside Argentina, China, Egypt, Serbia and the United States.
The Lithuanians got a good look at the USA on Tuesday night when they hosted the Americans in Kaunas and fell, 92-79.
Mantas Mockevicius and Lekunas scored 18 points apiece for the Lithuanians in that setback.
The USA coach, Don Showalter, was impressed by what he saw in the Baltic side.
“The Lithuanians are a very capable team,” he said, “particularly on defense.”
Four members of the squad – Lekunas, Martynas Paliukenas, Simonas Lekys and Osvaldas Olisevicius – are from the Sarunas Marciulionis basketball school.
Two others - Rokas Narkevicius and Simonas Kymantas – hail from the Arvydas Sabonis basketball school.
