    Opening day victories for Correcaminos, Costa Caribe and Santa Tecla

    SAN SALVADOR (Liga Centroamericana de Clubes) – The Liga Centroamericana de Clubes got off to a great start with exciting games and victories for Correcaminos Colon (PAN), Costa Caribe (NCA) and Santa Tecla BC (ESA).

    Correcaminos Colon was the first team to earn a spot on the wins column after defeating Tigersharks from Belize 92-72. The Panamanian champion found early its rhythm and found an early lead that would eventually give the team the victory. Five players from Correcaminos scored in the double digits as the team got its first victory in the regional league. The top performer for Correcaminos was Ernesto Oglivie with 14 points and 5 rebounds, meanwhile in a losing effort Ashton Edwards was the top scorer for the Tigersharks with 19 points.

    Costa Caribe of Nicaragua made its Liga Centroamericana 2016 debut with a win over Halcones de Sonzacate 85-73. After losing the first quarter 24-23, Costa Caribe found another level and dominated the second quarter 27-19 to take a comfortable lead at half-time. Costa Caribe kept the lead throughout the entire second half and celebrated the victory. Bartel Lopez accumulated a 16 point-11 rebound “double-double” to take top honors for Costa Caribe.

    On the last game of the day, Santa Tecla BC defeated Banco Atlantida 80-63. After a closely fought first quarter, the host secured a commanding lead in the second quarter by dominating the score 22-11. Nothing changed and the host took the important win. The top scorer for the host was James Valladares with 15 points and 8 rebounds.

    The second day of competition will feature Costa Caribe vs. Banco Atlantida, Correcaminos vs. Halcones and Santa Tecla vs. Tigersharks.

    The winner of the Liga Centroamericana de Clubes will earn a spot in the 2017 edition of the DIRECTV Liga de las Americas.
