Nine years since Libya hosted the FIBA AfroBasket 2009, the North African country has launched a number of programs aiming to reignate the sport in the country.
It comes after a few years of political and social instability, which prevented Libya national teams from participating at major Africa basketball tournaments.
Habib Cherif of Tunisia was one of the organizers of the Libyan basketball workshop
Under the tutelage of FIBA coach instructor Habib Cherif, and referees instructor Hedi Hammani, 33 candidates - from July 2-7 - participated in a level 1 coach training in Benghazi as well as a refreshment course for referees.
Moderated by FIBA Africa Women's Basketball Council member Salman Ben Romdhane, the workshop also focused on the development of women's basketball in Libya.
Cherif said: "The Libyan Basketball Federation are trying their best to develop the game despite the situation in the country. They are on good track, and if all goes according to their plan, Libya will come strong on the continental basketball map."
