    LIB - Secretary General gave recommendations to Presidents of Federations

    TRIPOLI (AFROBASKET 2009) - In margin of the draw ceremony, Secretary General of FIBA Africa, Dr. Alphonse BILE held an important meeting with the presidents of Federation in presence of  Pr. Alain EKRA, president of this African basketball governing body, Afrobasket's headquarters in Tripoli.

    During the meeting, he explained again the system of competition used for the championship which is, according to him, stating following FIBA World Championship in order to avoid any kind of incidents between teams. "After the first round, the three best teams from each group will move into second round. At this level, two groups (Group E and Group F) will be set up and based respectively in Benghazi and in Tripoli. At this stage of competition, the teams of each group will play their matches following the first round's results", he precised. Then, he spoke about the internal transportation of delegations in Benghazi and Tripoli as well as the deadline to send the teams' list (a list of 25 players among them only 12 will be retained for AfroBasket 2009) on 10th July. Beyond this date a penalty shall be paid.

    Talking about naturalisations, he said that the rule which indicates that each team has to use only one naturalized player must be applied. He also spoke to Presidents of Federations about all the problems face in the registrations, mainly naturalisation checking, licenses' authenticity, proceedings… The Secretary General has also given some indications concerning the visas applications and gave precisions on delegations' flight to Libya with Afriquiyah, the airline partner of Afrobasket 2009.

    For the equipments, Alphonse BILE requested delegations to come in Libya with six kinds of jerseys: "2 whites, 2 darks and 2 of other colour" adding that according to the Unified Rules of Competitions: "The local team must play in white jersey". All the teams will receive FIBA logo in order to put it on each jersey on a indicated place as is done in the other FIBA zones. "I expect to all delegations to make available their stars for 25th Africa Nations Championship to improve the tournament level and to increase the competition notoriety. We all have to work to the success of this Championship" has concluded the Secretary General of FIBA Africa.
